Do you ever look at you closet when you’re getting ready to go out and get overwhelmingly frustrated because you have ~ NoThInG~ to wear?… Although you just went shopping, like yesterday.
This is because we have a problem…we shop & shop without considering how many times something can actually be worn. Sure, that floral dress is adorable, but how many times can you actually wear it before people start to notice?
When I started writing this blog post, I began with the title “Spend or Splurge: Wardrobe Staples”…but after much consideration (about 2 minutes in.) I decided to go with the lengthy alternative. Think about it, if these are “wardrobe staples” it means we want them for the long run. So lets splurge a little more on the staples, and save on the trendy “here for the moment” things.
Now I’m NOT saying to break the bank on a white t-shirt, because trust me I would never encourage that! However, instead of purchasing a $5.99 t-shirt that will probably shrink after the 1st wash and you will have to re-purchase anyway! Think about spending a little extra on a T-shirt that 1st fits you well & 2nd you know will stand the test of time.
So if you think about it…we’re kinda saving money here.
The next 10 things are items I have in my own closet, which I have on HEAVY rotation…plus a few extra things I’ve had my eye on. For the most part, these are my absolute go-to’s, either to accesorize trendy pieces or wear alone. I know I can always count on them, to make me look presentable.
These are the 10 things you NEED to make it seem like you have it all.
1. Jean Jacket
3. White T-shirt or Cami
4. Basic Bodysuit
6. Simple Jewelry
7. Black Heels
8. Nude Heels
10. Designer Handbag
Ok so for this one you probably agree with me or you’re thinking “um no I don’t have $2000 to spend on a purse.” Which is totally understandable, agree to disagree. I see handbags as investment pieces, and I feel like they dress up ANY outfit. Also, I can’t tell you how many times my designer bags have talked me out of purchases. For example, there’s been times when I want to buy an $80 bag but then been like “ugh whatever, I have my Louis” and walked away. SO even if it’s not right away, I suggest saving for a bag you absolutely LOVE (& preferably one that matches everything!)
