Game Of Thrones DIY

Winter is here.

My sweet little nephew James’ turned 2 this past weekend…and his birthday just so happened to land on The Game of Thrones premier. So naturally we took complete advantage of the situation and decided to throw a birthday party and GOT watch party all in one. Don’t worry, of course we also had a “Cars” themed party earlier in the day, since James is OBSESSED with Lighting McQueen (and cars in general.) He also spent the first half of the weekend in Disney World. So I think it is safe to say… He all was partied out.

The party planning was a little rushed, so we had to get creative and work on a lot of DIY’s. We made dragon eggs, a “Winter Fell” cupcake stand, and golden dragons to adorn the table. We even had GOT themed treats. We made “Iron Throne” cupcakes, served chicken “little fingers”, and indulged on a GOT inspired charcutterie board. Plus! I made my first balloon garland (and it wasn’t terrible!). So basically, I think I can officially quit school and start my own party planning business. (Kidding!)

Here are some of the DIY’s we worked on…You can also see them under my “DIY” highlight on Instagram.

Dragon Eggs

These were SO simple (& cheap!) to make. I’ll admit, it could be a little time consuming, but we split up the work. One “egg” took about 2 boxes of 200 thumbtacks. Trust me we got this down after the 3rd trip to Walmart for more Thumbtacks.

Golden Dragons

It’s all about the details. These little $10 amazon dragons were probably the easiest thing to make and they added SO much to the table. Wherever we felt like something was missing…we added a dragon. We even used some to decorate the cake!

“WinterFell” Cupcake Stand

The moment I saw it, I felt like it matched the theme perfectly. We had to find a way to incorporate it. So we spray painted it with “stone” paint and voila… WinterFell. (Here’s the link to the castle)
